World-leading Electrical Discharge Machine (EDM) manufacturer Sodick Europe is on course to boost its manufacturing capacity by 25 per cent when it opens a new factory in Thailand.
The new factory is on course to open in February 2013 and is situated near to Sodick’s established manufacturing facility in Bangkok. This manufacturing expansion is also creating 250 new jobs, all of which will be based at the new site.
Careful consideration has been put into the planning process of the new factory build, after Sodick’s existing factory suffered damage caused by heavy flooding in Thailand last year. The new factory floor is elevated 2.5 m higher than the existing site, which will avoid damage from any further flooding. At 8,700 square metres, the factory offers Sodick additional capacity to its existing 35,000 square foot factory, making Thailand Sodick’s largest international manufacturing operation.
Sodick Thailand has been in operation since 1990. As part of the group, it helps develop new EDM technologies that assist Sodick customers globally to manufacture their products to the highest standard. Peter Capp, CEO, Sodick Europe is delighted with the extra capacity that the new Thailand factory will offer the company.
“We have spent a lot of time planning this new factory to make sure that it can withstand flooding and also increase our global manufacturing capacity. This new facility will help to improve our response times for customers worldwide. Sodick Europe has just celebrated one of its most successful years to date and with our new Thailand factory opening in February, 2013 looks set to be even more successful,” said Peter Capp.
